Roland D Tucker was educated at Boston Grammar School.

He was the son of Mr and Mrs AG Tucker of the Rum Puncheon Hotel, Boston, Lincolnshire. He joined the army in May 1940 and served with the Commandos. He took part in the raids on Lofoten (his first raid) and St Nazaire, and many other small hit-and-run raids. He later went to the Middle East, where he was taken prisoner (in Tunisia) in 1943. He was then serving with the 6th Commandos, attached to the Leicestershire Regiment.

He received three medals: Wikipedia:1939–1945 Star; Wikipedia:Africa Star; Wikipedia:War Medal 1939–1945. His medals were sold by auction on 12 November 2020 together with two card identity discs, embossed "4864330 R. D. Tucker C.E."[1].
