Obituary

From the February 1999 issue of The Old Bostonian

Barry died in Papworth Hospital on 16th December at age 63. He was at BGS from 1946 to 1951. He left Boston in the 1960s but kept close contact with the town through his family and friends and as a member of the OBA.

In his youth he played football for Swineshead FC and was a staunch supporter of Boston United.

When he left BGS he entered the family business of J Colam & Son.

He did his National Service with the Royal Artillery in Wales and in West Germany. This interrupted his training as an Architect in Leicester.

In 1959 he joined the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food as a surveyor at the Huntingdon Offices. He stayed there until his retirement in 1993 and lived in Ramsay, Cambs for over 30 years. In spite of the distance he attended the Saturday matches of Boston United as often as possible. He loved sport, indeed he played cricket for local teams as recently as last summer.

He was president of Ramsay Town FC, served as a governor of Ramsay Primary School and was a member of the local Probus Club.

He is survived by his wife Jean, his mother Ruby, sons Kevin and Steven and four grandsons.
