Brackenbury Memorial Shield
The Brackenbury Memorial Shield is presented at the Boston Grammar School Prize Giving to the student who has shown the most improvement in their chosen subject over the previous year. It is also known as the "Brackenbury Memorial Prize".
The prize takes the form of an oak shield mounted with the school arms and the Brackenbury arms and motto in brass, made and donated by Jonathon Brackenbury in memory of family members. Brackenburys have attended the School throughout its history and are briefly mentioned in Floreat Bostona. The Brackenburys are related to Hannah Brackenbury who endowed several churches and schools and provided funds for the building of the Brackenbury Building at Balliol College, Oxford. There is also a Brackenbury Scholarship at Balliol.
