Obituary

From the February 2000 issue of The Old Bostonian

David died in January this year at the age of 29.

He was born in March 1970 with a heart problem and when he was only three years old specialists decided that nothing further could be done for that condition. At seven he had meningitis and was seriously ill, but survived despite the discovery that an abscess had formed on the brain. At eight David underwent major heart surgery.

Through all these terrible trials David fought back, showing great resilience and courage and lived his life to the fullest possible.

After Park Infants and Junior Schools he entered BGS in 1981. His ambition was for a career in banking and he left BGS to go to college where he gained A levels in accountancy, economics and statistics. This opened a door for him and he started his banking career with Nat West in Boston. Sadly he was forced to retire because of ill health in 1996.

Throughout his life David had many interests in which he took an active part. These included the Scouts, tennis as a member of Boston Tennis Club where he was described as "a keen and determined player". He followed Boston United closely and was a loyal supporter, rarely missing a home match. He had a soft spot for snooker. David loved all types of music and was a member of Holy Trinity Church Parochial Church Council.

In 1994 he married Nikki, who shared all his many interests.

He died in the Royal Brompton Hospital, London and his funeral was at Holy Trinity Church, Boston on 20th January.

David's father Brian is a Governor of BGS and for many years has chaired the finance sub-committee.
