The Dennis Commonwealth Prize is awarded for performance in History. Established in 1944 by John Dennis, it was originally called the "Dennis Empire Prize" until being renamed in 1961.

The Boston Guardian in 29th April 1944 contained the following detail:

"Mr. John Dennis has offered (through Viscount Bledisloe) to establish a trust fund of £200, the interest to be used in perpetuity for the awarding of annual prizes in the county secondary schools on the subject of Empire knowledge. The committee accepted the offer and expressed appreciation of Mr. Dennis's generosity. The awards are to be made annually at the Boston, Donington and Spalding Grammar Schools and the Boston and Spalding High Schools"
