Jack Upsall was educated at Boston Grammar School (1960-1968).

Head of School 1967-1968 together with Martin Panton. He was an Under Officer in the CCF, House Captain (Muston's), editor of the Bostonian magazine, on the JCR General and Bar Committee. He was secretary of the Photographic Society. He achieved 8 'O' Levels and 3 'A' Levels and 2 'S' Levels, and gained a place at Jesus College, Cambridge reading Engineering.
