John Kinsey was a teacher of mathematics at Boston Grammar School (1964-1970). He had been a student at BGS from 1946 to 1954 and won the Parry Gold Medal before gaining a BSc in 1957 from the University of Birmingham. His teaching post before returning to BGS was at Rochester.

When he left BGS he took up a post as Head of Mathematics at Belper.
