John Lyon is a teacher of Music at Boston Grammar School (c2000-c2010, 2016-Present)

Originally from Golborne, near Wigan, John studied Bass Trombone with Leslie Storey and Organ with Dr Graham Cummings[1] at the University of Huddersfield, graduating with a BMus (hons) degree in 1993. He continued his studies, gaining his PGCE a year later. Whilst at University, John ran a successful student choir known as the St Paul's Singers and worked as Choirmaster at St Barnabas' Church, Crosland Moor[2]. John moved to Lincolnshire in 1994 to take up a post as Head of Music in Spalding and continued his organ studies with Colin Walsh, Organist Laureate of Lincoln Cathedral.

John has held middle and senior leadership roles in a number of schools in the county including seven years as Assistant Headteacher at Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School to return to Boston Grammar School as Director of Music.

John is Musical Director of the Heckington Singers[3], a 70 strong community choir, which he co-founded in 2012. He is Bass Trombonist for the Boston Sinfonia[4] and also the Lincolnshire Philharmonia (the Orchestra of RAF Cranwell).

John held the position of Director of Music at St Botolph's Church from 2001-2006 and returned as Assistant Organist in November 2015. After serving on the Royal School of Church Music Lincoln area committee for a number of years, John is now Chair and works to promote church music and choral singing across Lincolnshire. In his spare time, John enjoys walking his dogs, composing and arranging music and tinkering with his classic Land Rover.
