Well-known retired optician John Mavis Enderby has died at his Spilsby Road, Boston, home at the age of 83.
Born at Boston, he lived in the town all his life, and followed his father George into the family business and retired at the age of 70.
He served in the Royal Army Medical Corps during the war years where he spent much of his time in West Africa.
He was a keen caravanner and he and his wife, Joan, enjoyed regular holidays touring in France. He was an enthusiastic walker and archaeologist, a member of the Early Morning Swimming Club and also Probus. He had a long association with St John Ambulance and had served as president of the Boston branch of the cadets.
A married man, he leaves his wife Joan, son Philip, daughters Judith Gilbert and Rachael Bull, and several grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Hale Enderby.
The funeral service took place at Boston Crematorium and was conducted by the Rev Brian Osborne.
