Keith Stevens was educated at St Nicholas School and Boston Grammar School (1951-58). He joined Holland County Council (HCC) upon leaving school and was articled to Leslie Barlow, a county surveyor. From 1961 to 1966 he studied at the Leeds School of Architecture and Town Planning, after which he returned as an architect to HCC. He transferred to Lincolnshire County Council upon amalgamation in 1974. In 1983 he moved to Lincoln as Assistant County Architect on County Reorganisation. He was made General Manager of the new Land and Buildings Consultancy in Lincoln in 1993 and worked mainly on education projects throughout the county.
For a time he led the sub-committee of BGS governors that were responsible for the school buildings.
