Ken Cridland was educated at Boston Grammar School (1961-1968).
At BGS he was a prefect and a Staff Sergeant in the CCF. He achieved 9 'O' Levels and 4 'A' Levels, gaining a place at Manchester University to study Electrical Engineering though he was awarded a Physics BSc in 1972.
Ken went on to teach Physics including as Head of Physics at Lytham St Annes High School (1984-2012). From 1999 Ken was Division Secretary for the Lancashire Division of the National Union of Teachers. In retirement he continued as Assistant Secretary for the Fylde NUT.
He was Chairman of protest group Blackpool Against the Cuts which was founded in 2010 from left-wing and trades union concerns over job losses and vital social services cuts under coalition and Conservative government austerity. In 2020 the group ended its monthly meetings since all parties in the recent General Election had committed to end austerity.[1]
