In the 1973 issue of the Bostonian magazine, headmaster Philip Johnston wrote:

Our prizes on Speech Day were presented by Mrs Cooke and her husband Mr G V Cooke[1], spoke both forcefully and interestingly to the school. Mr Cooke, who had taught the headmaster some of his middle-school history some twenty-three years before, was then Director of Education for Lindsey County Council. He has since been designated Chief Education Officer for the new Lincolnshire County Council. This, we hope, was an appropriate introduction to what will be one of the oldest schools, when he assumes his new command in the April of 1974.
