Obituary

The Bostonian, 1939 - by George Ward Border

By the death of Vincent Buffham the Common Room has lost a charming personality; a member of the Staff who endeared himself to all.

In his sixteen years as Music Master at the School, he identified himself with every concert and musical entertainment given by the boys. He was, himself, an accomplished performer and he endeavoured to give his pupils a sense of appreciation of the art of music.

He was always cheerful, ready to share in and to make a joke, for he had a keen sense of humour and his dry remarks were often a cause of amusement to the Common Room.

He was gentle and kindly in manner and easy of approach. To know him was to feel a true friendliness. Little did anyone think he left off duty, as one thought temporarily, in order to undergo a minor operation, that the School was seeing the last of Vincent Buffham as its Music Master and a loyal member of its staff.
