Latch was a band formed from the remnants of Fruit Shop and was one of the first of the short-lived bands that were created quickly whenever a gig at the Boston Indian Queen needed a last minute support band or (more usually) Vehicle Derek had been asked to play a show and one or more members were unavailable. Latch performed twice in the space of a month, supporting out of town bands Sink, Fudge Tunnel, Juice and the newly formed Big Chief Fail. The sets were a mix of hardcore punk covers, original songs, and reworked versions of rejected Vehicle Derek songs.

The band split up live on stage at their second and last gig on 5th January 1990 when, needing to fill a 40 minute slot and only having 25 minutes worth of material, the band embarked on a 15 minute version of Suzanne Vega's Luka, a task not helped by band members only knowing the words to the first verse and chorus. Most band members quit the stage around eight minutes in, leaving just Del Howes and Lee Winter remaining on guitar and drums respectively. Howes then announced that they had become a new band - Toboggan - and proceeded to play the opening of Bruce Springsteen's 'Born In The USA' for ten more minutes before ending the set and leaving the stage.
Figgis came about in the summer of 1994 when former members of Vehicle Derek found themselves back in Boston for a short while and decided to make some music together. Named after James Bolam's character in the comedy show 'Only When I Laugh', drummer Glen Ernest Williams from Spalding was added to complete the line-up. The band played twice, once at The Birds, Spalding and again at Boston Indian Queen, in shows organized by the then developing South Lincolnshire emo scene. The set consisted of reworked Vehicle Derek songs, some originals written that summer, and a handful of ska-punk cover versions.

A third show was offered at the end of the summer but with Del Howes unavailable to play the other three members performed as Tilman playing a radically different set based around improvised instrumentals.
Benny was a band formed following the end of the second incarnation of Vehicle Derek. Andy Sandall and Del Howes switched over to guitar and drums respectively, and added longtime friend Aston Stephens on vocals and former BGS Head Boy Alan Boyce on bass. The band released three albums, a couple of singles and appeared on multiple compilation appearances on the Boss Tuneage label during the early 2000s.

Benny's repertoire included a rock tribute to the Beast Mart proclamation, the opening track on the second album 'Our True Intent Is All For Your Delight' and the final song the band performed live in their final ever show. The first two albums also featured homages to the BGS Jazz Band, in which both Alan Boyce and Andy Sandall had played bass guitar, with renditions of BGS Jazz Band favourites Margie and Dr Jazz. References to Boston, South Lincolnshire and BGS in particular littered the songs and the album's sleeve-notes.

The band would only play three live shows in their three year history, partly due to logistics of getting band members together. All three shows were played as part of punk festivals with the band's performances highly anticipated due to their mix of theatricality and the high possibility of obscure cover versions being played. The band ceased to exist when Andy Sandall announced his pending emigration to the US, and a compilation of all the bands releases was put together by Boss Tuneage and released "posthumously".
The first two albums also featured homages to the BGS Jazz Band, in which both Alan Boyce and Andy Sandall had played bass guitar, with renditions of BGS Jazz Band favourites Margie and Dr Jazz. }}
Vehicle Derek was a hardcore punk band formed in 1987 to play at the 1988 BGS Rock Night but that went on to become a regular fixture of the local punk music scene for the next few years. By the time the band broke up at end of 1990 they had played 32 gigs, including shows either headlining or as a support act in London, Nottingham, Huddersfield, Bradford and several times in Lincoln. The band briefly reformed in 2000 to record an album of their old songs and played a short run of 7 shows across the country to support this released.

The band formed in 1987 with the original line-up of Richard 'Del' Howes on vocals, Adam Warne on drums, Paul Woods on bass and Jason Etherington on guitar but this version of the band never performed live and Woods was soon replaced by James Davies on bass, although he and Etherington would often switch instruments during the set depending on who had written the next song. The band played several times at the Indian Queen, becoming part of the impressive punk scene that grew up in the town at the end of the 1980s, and made a reputation outside of the town that saw them asked to play a show in London in late 1989. They also recorded a session for Radio Lincolnshire that would become their first 'release' as the cassette-only 'Zob', with the radio session paired with a recording of a live show and some home recordings tacked on the end.

That show would be the last with Davies who left that winter to form Big Chief Fail with older brother Christian Davies leaving Vehicle Derek to play one show as a trio with Howes on bass. In this interim period they also headed to Gems Studio in Frampton to record what would be their debut single, a split single with Norwich-based band Goober Patrol that would be the first release on the new BossTuneage label - a label that is still around today. Unhappy with the first recording they headed back in a week later with Andy Sandall playing bass to record three tracks that made it onto the single.

Sandall would become the permanent bass player and the band toured across the UK with Goober Patrol throughout 1990 to support the released of the single. They also sold a compilations cassette at shows called 'Back to School with Vehicle Derek' that featured artwork made up of collages of pictures and text from old Bostonian magazines. The cassette featured recordings from various practices, alternate takes from the Radio Lincolnshire and single recording sessions, and a full live show from Lincoln. After the summer the pressures of members going off to university saw the band cease to play together, although they all stayed in touch and shared a couple of brief reformations in the late 90s to play two shows and record a song for a compilation CD celebrating the record label's 10th anniversary with a line-up of Howes, Etherington, Sandall and drummer Little John.

In late 2000 the owner of the BossTuneage label asked the band members if they would get together to record the album they had been asked for by the label back in 1990. A line-up of Howes, Davies, Sandall and Warne went back into the studio and recorded their old songs for this release and undertook a short UK tour with several label mates to promote the album. The album was released in both Europe and Japan thanks to a reciprocal arrangement between labels. Several tracks got national airplay on both John Peel and Steve Lamacq's Radio 1 shows. Later in 2001 Vehicle Derek hung it up for good, with all four members continuing to make music in their own projects.

Vehicle Derek was the only constant in the VDSM name, with the SM part changing on a gig-by-gig basis. Once the band got a bit more serious and started playing gigs outside Boston, and especially when it started making records, the name was pared down to just "Vehicle Derek" as it was easier for people putting on shows to use. By the end of their existence that had released one single, one album, an official 'bootleg' of a professionally recorded practice session and had appeared on several compilation CDs for various punk labels.

Latch formed from the remnants of Fruit Shop and were one of the first of the short-lived bands that were created quickly whenever a gig at the Boston Indian Queen needed a last minute support band or (more usually) Vehicle Derek had been asked to play a show and one or more members where unavailable. Latch performed twice in the space of a month, supporting out of town bands Sink, Fudge Tunnel, Juice and the newly formed Big Chief Fail. The sets were a mix of hardcore punk covers, original songs, and reworked versions of rejected Vehicle Derek songs.

The band split up live on stage at their second and last gig on 5th January 1990 when, needing to fill a 40 minute slot and only having 25 minutes worth of material, the band embarked on a 15 minute version of Suzanne Vega's 'Luka', a task not helped by band members only knowing the words to the first verse and chorus. Most band members quit the stage around 8 minutes in, leaving just Del Howes and Lee Winter remaining on guitar and drums respectively. Howes then announced that they had become a new band - Toboggan - and proceeded to play Luka for 10 more minutes before ending the set and leaving the stage.
Benny was a band formed following the end of the second incarnation of Vehicle Derek. Andy Sandall and Del Howes switched over to guitar and drums respectively, and added longtime friend Aston Stephens on vocals and former BGS Head Boy Alan Boyce on bass. The band released three albums, a couple of singles and appeared on multiple compilation appearances on the BossTuneage label during the early 2000s.

Benny's repertoire included a rock tribute to the Beast Mart proclamation, the opening track on the second album 'Our True Intent Is All For Your Delight' and the final song the band performed live in their final ever show. The first two albums also featured homages to the BGS Jazz Band, in which both Alan Boyce and Andy Sandall had played bass guitar. with renditions of BGS Jazz Band favorites 'Margie' and 'Dr Jazz'. References to Boston, South Lincolnshire and BGS in particular littered the songs and the album's sleevenotes.

The band would only play three live shows in their 3 year history, partly due to logistics of getting band members together. All three shows were played as part of punk festivals with the band's performances highly anticipated due to their mix of theatricality and the high possibility of obscure cover versions being played. The band ceased to exist when Andy Sandall announced his pending emigration to the US, and a compilation of all the bands releases was put together by BossTuneage and released posthumously.
}}

After the summer the pressures of members going off to university saw the band cease to play together, although they all stayed in touch and shared a couple of brief reformations in the late 90s to play two shows and record a song for a compilation CD celebrating the record label's 10th anniversary.

Medford were a short lived band put together by former BGS students in 1997 that wrote songs together by never performed, but would become the catalyst for Benny several years later.

Wanting to do something musical during the summer of 1995, Howes and Sandall decided to swap instruments around and form a band with old school friend Alan Boyce, who had taken over bass playing duties in the BGS Jazz Band from Sandall a few years earlier. The band had two long song-writing and practice sessions but never played a live show despite numerous offers from other local bands who knew the members. The songs written in these sessions made it onto cassette and were forgotten about for several years.

After the demise of Vehicle Derek in 2001 both Sandall and Howes wanted to continue writing and performing music so set about forming a new band that would become Benny. After one practice as a three piece, they asked Alan if he would join and quickly scoured the tape of Medford practicing to find any songs that would work for the new band. Benny songs 'Parks & Gardens', 'Karl's Dad's Shed' and the cover of Jazz Band standards 'Margie' and 'Dr. Jazz' all came from the original Medford practice tapes.
Freaky Friday formed When Vehicle Derek were offered a gig supporting UK hardcore legends Sink and new labelmates Goober Patrol in Norwich on 1st April 1990 and were unable to commit due to members being unavailable. Not wanting to miss out on the show, Vehicle Derek members Del Howes and Andy Sandall recruited friends to form a band at short notice the Friday before they were committed to perform. The band practiced on Saturday afternoon and again on Sunday morning then rushed to play their one and only performance that afternoon at the Jacquard Club in Norwich. The set consisted of primarily cover versions of various US Straight Edge hardcore bands, and a few reworked Latch songs.

Tilman came about in the summer of 1994 when former members of Vehicle Derek found themselves back in Boston for a short while and decided to make some music together. The first iteration of the band was called Figgis (named after James Bolam's character in the comedy show 'Only When I Laugh') but in September a gig was offered at Boston's Indian Queen supporting local emo band Tribute. With Del Howes out of town the other three band members rehearsed as a three piece using the name 'Tilman', taken from Tilman Brauns, the German exchange student housed by Mark Bell in 1990. The other name considered at the time was 'Imbisstagen', translating as 'Fast Food Days.'

The band played just a single show that differed from other bands they had been in as the set consisted of longer instrumental songs with noise interludes and a significant amount of improvisation. With college and employment seeing all the members of the band heading off in different directions at the end of the summer this group of musicians never played together again.
}}

After the summer the pressures of members going off to university saw the band cease to play together, although they all stayed in touch and shared a couple of brief reformations in the late 90s to play two shows and record a song for a compilation CD celebrating the record label's 10th anniversary.

Fruit Shop formed in 1989 specifically to perform at the BGS Rock Night on 9th February alongside Centurion, Vehicle Derek, and The Outpatients. After a number of practices in the then new BGS Music Room the band performed this and two other gigs during BGS events over the next couple of months.

The band were originally called 'S.H.I.T.E' but were forced to change their name when teacher Nicholas Vernon Fitton spotted their flyers around the school and removed them all, demanding a name change or he would see they were banned from the show. The band formed around the 6th Form classmates of Vehicle Derek drummer Adam Warne and featured future Vehicle Derek bass player Andy Sandall on guitar. The band performed in fancy dress and played a mix of basic original songs and cover versions, including 'Girls' by the Beastie Boys, 'Walk This Way' by Aerosmith and Run DMC, and a version of The Age of Chance's cover of Prince's 'Kiss'. The name Fruit Shop was taken from on original song written by the band called 'The Fruit Song'. Highly influenced by Monty Python at the time the song consisted of a repetitive riff and the band's three singers shouting out the names of fruit.

The band played again at the 6th Form Music Afternoon a month later alongside other musical performances from BGS and BHS members, and their final show was a 6th form Assembly where the band performed two songs and provided musical accompaniment to a performance art piece about distraction. They ended the set with a cover of Muddy Water's 'Hoochie Coochie Man' with the lyrics changed to tell the life story of Jesus, in keeping with the theme of the assembly.

Reaction to the performance was mixed, with Robin Gracey demanding an apology and banning the band from performing at BGS again, mostly due to the use of pornographic magazines as props during the 'Distraction' piece. The performance was strongly defended by the band member's form teacher Reverend Peter Harding who felt it made some good points and liked the 'anarchistic spirit' they had shown.

Members of Fruit Shop would move on to form Latch, a slightly more serious band later that summer.
