Povey came to BGS a year early and struggled through to three years in the upper sixth.
Povey's extra-curricular activies were:

Povey studied first Maths at [[Wikipedia:University of Plymouth|Plymouth Polytechnic]] then transferred to [[Wikipedia:Brunel University of London|Brunel University]] to do Computer Science. He did industrial training initially with [[Wikipedia:British Gas|British Gas]] in London and then twice with [[Wikipedia:Burroughs Corporation|Burroughs Corporation]] in Feltham. After graduating, he worked for Burroughs in Feltham and Cumbernauld, then [[Wikipedia:Digital Equipment Corporation|Digital Equipment Corporation]] in Reading and then Nashua, New Hampshire. While at Digital in Reading, he was News Editor for the [https://thevns.uk/ VOGON News Service]. He left Digital at the end of 1993 and worked for a number of IT companies in a variety of roles until retiring from full-time work in 2018.

He is tour manager and web master for both [[Wikipedia:Ray Cooper (singer-songwriter)|Ray Cooper]] and the [https://www.johnjonestrio.org/ John Jones Trio].
