Basil, a life member of the [[Old Bostonian Association|OBA]], died on 5th June 1999 following an illness. His funeral on 15th June was at St Wilfred’s Parish Church, Cantley, Doncaster. There was a Reqiuem Mass on the preceding evening.

He left BGS in 1943 and joined the Royal Air Force as an apprentice straight away. He received his training at RAF. Inevitably his service career meant that he moved around a lot, both in the UK and abroad. At the time of the Suez crisis he was posted to Egypt.

He married in 1956 and stayed in the RAF until 1978. His 35 years in the service was recognised by the award of a long service medal and later a bar.

As a civilian he first worked for a Friendly Society and then for Fisons He retired about 10 years ago. He devoted much of his time to his church, St Wilfred’s where he was the verger and to the [[Wikipedia:Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes|RAOB]] in which he held high office.
