'''Geoff Brooks''' was educated at [[Boston Grammar School]] (1939-1944). While at BGS he was involved in the [[CCF|Air Training Corps]].

Geoff was the guest of honour at the [[Old Bostonian Association Annual Dinner 2008]], at which he proposed the toast to The School; a comprehensive account of his career can be found there.

Geoff was employed by the [[Wikipedia:General Post Office|General Post Office]] as a telephone engineer, during which time he was a [[Wikipedia:Liberal Party (UK)|Liberal Party]] Councillor in Boston. In 1960 he received promotion to the Post Office Engineering Department in London, where he was involved in proposing and eventually implementing the growth of the UK telephone system, and later moving it from electro-mechanical to electronic switching technology, and indeed towards data transmission, laying the groundwork that later enabled general internet access.
