This year's course was held in the [[Wikipedia:Romney Marsh|Romney Marsh]] district of the Kent and Sussex coast. We were as usual accompanied by [[Miles Alfred Carter|Mr Carter]] who was assisted this year by [[T M Butterfield|Mr Butterfield]], who has since left the school to take up another appointment. We were of course chauffeurred ''[sic]'' by Harry, who by now must be an expert geographer.

We stayed at the [[Wikipedia:St Mary's Bay, Kent|St Mary's Bay]] school journey centre, which was admirably suited to our requirements, being literally only a stone's throw from the sea. The accommodation and service were never quite up to last year's standards, but there were no serious complaints.

The week was spent most profitably, and we all gained a great deal of practical knowledge. During the week we walked almost the whole length of the coast from [[Wikipedia:Hastings|Hastings]] to [[Wikipedia:Folkestone|Folkestone]]. Visits were also paid to [[Wikipedia:Canterbury|Canterbury]], [[Wikipedia:Lydd Airport|Lydd Airport]] and the [[Wikipedia:Dungeness nuclear power station|Dungeness Nuclear Power Station]]. Evenings were usually spent working, but everyone found time to enjoy the sparse local amenities. The climax of the week's work was the day spent on the group projects. These covered a wide range of topics from a small village study to a study of the fishing and boatbuilding industries of [[Wikipedia:Rye, East Sussex|Rye]]. The largest project was undertaken by the four Upper Sixth geographers. This was a complete urban study of Rye which ranged in scope from the town's history since the middle ages to the present day birth and death rates.
