Former Boston man Albert Harold Chester died suddenly at his home in [[Wikipedia:Leigh-on-Sea|Leigh-on-Sea]] on 31 July. He was 82.

Harold attended Boston Grammar School from 1930-1937. He was a keen sportsman in track and field events and captained the school cricket first eleven in 1936 and 1937, and played in the school football team.

After leaving school he was articled to Mr Cockerill, the [[Wikipedia:Borough of Boston|Boston Borough]] Surveyor until war broke out. He took a commission in the [[Wikipedia:Royal Engineers|Royal Engineers]] at the age of 20 and served in North Africa until 1943. In December of that year he moved to Italy and was promoted to Captain in 1945, and to Major in 1946. He was demobilised in 1947 at Aldershot.

Harold left Boston in 1947 and married Margaret in 1949.

He joined his cousin in the business of I.F. Chester (Roughton) Ltd agricultural merchants and lived in [[Wikipedia:Woodhall Spa|Woodhall Spa]].

In 1970 he became proprietor of a shop in [[Wikipedia:Westcliff-on-Sea|Westcliff-on-Sea]] and retired in 1978. He was a member of Westcliffe-on-Sea [[Wikipedia:Probus Clubs|Probus Club]], serving as their treasurer and president.

Harold was a life member of the [[Old Bostonian Association]] but had little opportunity of participating in association activities, living out of the town .

He leaves his wife, Margaret, and three children: Sally with two sons and two daughters; Adrian with two sons; Rosemary with two daughters. Also his sister Mrs Hilda Matson of Fishtoft. He was a kind and loving family man.

He was very proud of his old school and shared the [[The Old Bostonian|Old Bostonian Magazine]] with his family. They would have liked to include [[Floreat Bostona (music)|Floreat Bostona]] in the funeral service, but found three verses of Latin somewhat daunting. His funeral took place at [[Wikipedia:Southend-on-Sea|Southend-on-Sea]] crematorium on Friday 9 August. It was his family's wish that any donations be sent to the Old Bostonian Association.
