Dr Matthew Desforges, formerly of Boston, has died at his home in [[Wikipedia:Stockport|Stockport]], Cheshire a few days after his 31st birthday.

Dr Desforges, who was married with a 14-month-old son, was the only son of Geoff and Jane Desforges, of Colindale, Boston.

He is a former pupil of Tower Road and Boston Grammar schools and he was a keen supporter of Boston United and Nottingham Forest football clubs.

His cancer was diagnosed nearly two years ago and his family say he bore the illness bravely.

After leaving school he went to the [[Wikipedia:University of Manchester|University of Manchester]], where he achieved a first class honours degree in aeronautical engineering and was later awarded a PhD.

He was a member of the Institute of Electrical Engineers, was a chartered electrical engineer and worked as a research engineer for Control Technology Centre in Manchester.

He had a wide range of interests including speedway, hill walking in the Peak District and Lake District, and he was a lifelong fan of heavy rock and heavy metal music.
