Boston has lost yet another of its fighting sons - this time one of its best-known and most popular. He was Sergt. Pilot Ronald ("Ron")Brant, RAF, elder son of Mr and Mrs Arthur Brant, of 84, Wide Bargate, Boston.

His parents received the tragic news on Boxing Day morning that their son had been killed on active service on Christmas Eve.

Ron had joined the RAF in 1940, and was trained in America. He came back to England in August last.

Educated at Boston Grammar School, he was one of the School's most outstanding sportsmen playing football and cricket for the first eleven. He also played for the Old Bostonians Club.

On leaving school he was employed by Messrs. Jebb and Tunnard, solicitors, Wide Bargate, Boston.

He was a member of the St. John Ambulance Brigade and often drove the Boston and district motor ambulance. Ron was a former choirboy at Holy Trinity Church, Boston, and was a member of 715 (BGS) Squadron ATC before he gained his "wings."

Besides his parents he leaves one brother and one sister., to whom deep sympathy is extended.

===Impressive funeral===

The funeral, which was of an impressive nature, took place at the Holy Trinity Church, yesterday (Thursday) afternoon.

In addition to the chief mourners, the church was filled with members of the RAF, ATC, St John Ambulance Brigade and First-Aid personnel. Six RAF sergeants acted as bearers.

The service was conducted by the Vicar (Rev F J Disbrowe) and Mr Len Harris was the organist. Psalm 23 ("The lord is my Shepherd") was chanted and the hymns "The King of Love My Shepherd is" and "Thine for ever" were sung.

The interment took place in Holy Trinity Churchyard.

The family mourners were: Mr and Mrs A Brant (parents); Mr C Brant (brother); CQM Sergeant (Royal Sussex Regiment) and Mrs L Gibson (brother-in-law and sister); Miss L Calvert (aunt); Mr W H Wilson (uncle); Mr T Brant (grandfather); Mr and Mrs W Calvert (aunt and uncle, Lincoln); Mr T Hunt, Mrs Smaller, and Mrs Johns.
