Tom Redman died on 23 December 1999 at the [[Wikipedia:Marie Curie (charity)|Marie Curie Hospice]], [[Wikipedia:Newcastle upon Tyne|Newcastle upon Tyne]]. Tom was born in Boston and attended Boston Grammar School from 1943 to 1949. In his youth he was a member of the 5th Boston Scout Troop and later Boston Rowing Club and Boston Swimming Club. He was a keen photographer and often worked with Gus Smalley.

During his National Service in the Royal Air Force, Tom served as a Dental Technician. He married Joan Richmond from [[Wikipedia:Pateley Bridge|Pateley Bridge]] in Yorkshire, who came to Boston as a Domestic Science Teacher. They moved to London, when Tom’s job at Boston Haulage made it necessary.

Later they moved to [[Wikipedia:Milton Malsor|Milton Malsor]], just outside Northampton, and Tom worked for [[Wikipedia:Timken Roller Bearing Company|British Timken]] and other engineering firms. During his time there he represented Northamptonshire at rifle shooting.

He retired to Amble in 1995 and developed an interest in deep-sea fishing.
