Vehicle Derek was a punk band.
Vehicle Derek was the only constant in the VDSM name, with the SM part changing on a gig-by-gig basis. Once the band got a bit more serious and started playing gigs outside Boston, and especially when it started making records, the name was pared down to just "Vehicle Derek" as it was easier for people putting on shows to use. The band was active from 1987 to 1990, and again in 1998/99 to record the album which was promised in 1989.
Following the end of the second incarnation of Vehicle Derek, Andy Sandall and Del Howes switched roles, added Aston Stephens and Alan Boyce to form Benny.
