Peter died at the age of 78, after a long and brave fight against illness. Born the second of four children at Leake Commonside. he was educated at BGS and apart from service in the armed forces, worked until retirement for Charles Wright & Sons (Millers) Ltd, being involved in the buying and selling of grain, and in the post of company secretary.

During the war years, following training in Canada, he obtained a commission in the Royal Air Force and flew as navigator on Lancaster Bombers with 166 Squadron based at Kirmington (now Humberside Airport). He completed a full tour of operations flying 31 missions over enemy territory and was subsequently awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross.

His interests included gardening, reading, general knowledge, whist drives and his family. He was also a member of the Air Crew Association. He leaves his wife Molly, son Peter and grandson John. He is also survived by his sister Mary and brother John. The funeral was held at St Andrews Church, Butterwick, followed by burial. Donations were made to the Macmillan Trust.
