Could this have been the "William Goodwin, who arrived in Boston from England in 1632, removed to Newtown, now Cambridge, Mass., the same year, and became one of the ruling elders of that place and a representative to the General Court in 1634"[1]? Peter J King

I'm not sure there's enough evidence in the usual published works. Geo. S. Bagley in Floreat Bostona says "Chosen to replace him (Samuel Winter) was William Goodwin, but he cannot have accepted as, five months later, in June 1631, George Atkinson was appointed 'in the roome and place' of Winter."... "When Goodwin was appointed, 43s.5d was paid out for money spent by Richard Westland, an alderman, and John Browne, who became mayor at this time, 'in a journey to Yorksheire aboute a Schoolmaster'. Westland was next directed to go to Cambridge, at the corporation's expense, 'unto Mr Knowles for direccions about a Schoolemaster'. And on the day before Atkinson's election, it was agreed that Thomas Coney should 'ride to Lincoln to inquire about the fitnes of the Schoole Maisters proposed to this howse'."
Here [2] we see that the New England William Goodwin appears to come from Bocking, Essex which doesn't seem to have been on the itinerary for the posse from Boston. Smeeds 00:54, 7 March 2012 (GMT)
