Frank Harrison Hill (c1831-1910) was a BGS alumnus, and the editor of the London-based 'Daily News' from 1869 to 1886. Charles Dickens had been the newspaper's first editor, in 1845.
Hill's parents at one time lived next door to the school, and he was the nephew of Pishey Thompson.
When he died in 1910, Hill left £1,000 to the BGS trustees to be used to found a Frank Harrison Hill Exhibition for one or more subjects.
This prize was originally a leaving scholarship, awarded every three years. In recent decades it has been awarded annually to the winner of the Parry Gold Medal.
