Richard "Dick" Green
Occupation Co-founder
Employer Creation Records; Wichita Recordings

Richard "Dick" Green was educated at Boston Grammar School.

While at school Dick was a member of Talisman and the Reginald Bosanquet Swing Band. He went on to be a co-founder of Creation Records (1983) and of Wichita Recordings (2000).

Dick described the start of Creation Records in an interview: "I lived in Boston in Lincolnshire , my best friend Ken Popple moved to London and answered a Melody Maker ad for drummer wanted, the band was Laughing Apple, with Alan (McGee) and Andrew Innes, I used to blag my way in to rehearsals and mess about with them, Andrew got ill, I joined the Laughing Apple, we did a few gigs, put out a dubious single, toured with Eyeless In Gaza in Scotland, Alan's bass was nicked, crashed our van, and decided Laughing Apple was an ill fated adventure, I kept in touch with Alan as we had become firm friends, and we started a new group, Biff Bang Pow, Alan met Joe (Foster) via The TV Personalities and Rough Trade and they became partners in crime, Creation grew from that."[1]

Dick names his high points at creation as working with My Bloody Valentine, The Boo Radleys being at number one, Primal Scream gigs, Knebworth Festival, and working with Alan McGee.[1]

Mark Bowen said of the formation of Wichita Recordings: "Dick and I had worked together at Creation Records, and when Alan (McGee) and he decided they wanted to stop the label neither of us really had any plans. Then, one night in the Enterprise pub, Dick asked me if I'd be interested in getting another label together with the idea of doing something very small - just the two of us and basically a lot more low-key."[2]

When asked about the office culture at Witchita Recordings in comparison to the wild parties at Creation, Dick said: "Answer emails, glue phone to ear, take a break, walk the dog, answer more emails".[1]
