Baroque was formed in the 1960s by Jim Morley (guitar) Richard Peel (Drums) Richard Birbeck (Vocals) and Keith Day (bass), at Boston Grammar School, and the band was formed with the express intention of getting to know members of the opposite sex. The whole thing was like a rural Spinal Tap, including getting into debt to the tune of £16 to buy a bass rig, getting banned from the Angel at Wrangle for hitting a table with drum sticks, and nailing the drums to the floor at Abbey Lodge. The band broke up due to geographical separation in 1973, when two members went to college.

The band met up again in the early years of the 21st century, and were eventually persuaded to come out of retirement in 2013 and now have an annual reunion at the Music Under the Stars charity event in Buckland Village, Buckinghamshire.

In February 2018 Baroque released a CD called "The Only Years" in aid of the charity Youth Music. The CD marks the fiftieth anniversary of the group's formation. The track list is:

The Bull and Dog Blues is described as "A track from the soon to be available CD celebrating 50 years of a band with no change in line-up - a tribute to the pub we used to use to practice in 1968/69."
