Barry P Spikings (born 23 November 1939) was educated at Boston Grammar School (1950-55). After BGS, Barry joined the Lincolnshire Standard as a trainee reporter and later joined the Farmers' Weekly and during his time there he won a Golden Ear award with a 15-minute film he produced and directed himself.
Barry promoted pop festivals in Bardney, Lincolnshire before becoming co-owner of British Lion Films in the 1970s. He joined EMI when it took over British Lion and in 1978 his film "The Deer Hunter" won the Academy Award for Best Picture. He took over running EMI from Lord Delfont and two years later joined Nelson Entertainment Inc, becoming its president in the 1980s.
Barry presented the prizes at the BGS Prize Giving in 1993 and 1999, and was the guest speaker at the Old Bostonian Association Annual Dinner in 2000.
