William Gannock has Boston Grammar School's Gannock (red) house named after him. He was Mayor of Boston in 1567, when the school was built on its current site. His name is referenced in the Latin inscription located above the north door of Big School.
Gannock also served as Mayor of Boston in 1578. His will is dated 4 July 1583 and was proved 25 March 1591-2.[1]
His son, who was likewise named William, became Mayor in 1594.
