Henry George Pinner was born on 26th September 1894, and attended Boston Grammar School from September 1905 to April 1909. He then took a position in a Boston office as a clerk. He joined the Territorial Army and when war broke out in 1914 he volunteered for foreign service. He was soon sent to Belgium to serve with the 1/4th Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. He was killed in action on 13th October 1915, during the Lincoln’s charge on the Hohenzollen Redoubt.

His parents heard only rumours about his fate for two months. They then received a letter from Sergeant Paul (of Henry’s Company) to inform them:

Yesterday I saw an official notification from the Guards’ Division that Pte HG Pinner No 1734, 1/4 Lincolnshire Regiment, had been buried by them .

So, Henry received a proper burial but his grave has now been lost. Like Robert Henry Garnham, on the Loos Memorial in France as well as on the Boston Grammar School Memorial.
