Retired draughtsman [[Jeff Ashberry]] has died just a week after his 80th birthday. His widow Pat worked as a journalist for the Standard until her retirement. They were married for 57 years. Jeff, of Pilley's Lane, Boston, died in [[Wikipedia:Pilgrim Hospital|Pilgrim Hospital]] after a short illness. He leaves three sons and six grandchildren. Jeff was born in Boston and lived in the town almost all his life. After attending [[Wikipedia:Staniland Academy|Staniland School]] and [[Boston Grammar School]], he worked as an engineering design draughtsman for [[Wikipedia:Baker Perkins|Baker Perkins]] in Peterborough and [[Wikipedia:Magnadata Group#Norprint|Norprint]] in Boston. He was involved for many years with Boston Playgoers and Boston Operatic Society, initially helping behind the scenes on set-building and then acting in a wide range of shows at [[Wikipedia:Blackfriars Theatre and Arts Centre|Blackfriars]]. His speciality was comic turns such as his role as the Cowardly Lion in the Wizard of Oz and Constable Boot in Salad Days. He also loved gardening and cooking and even had ambitions to be a chef in his younger days.
