The pavilion was officially opened in May 1960 by the Chairman of Governors, William Lawson Alexander.
The building has primarily been associated with sport. It looks east onto the school field and forms the backdrop to many photographs of football and cricket teams. It currently contains:
- Two changing rooms
- A small set of shower units and lavatories
- A classroom currently used for teaching GCSE and A-Level PE
- A store cupboard for PE equipment
The classroom has been used for different purposes in the past. From roughly the mid-1960s until the late 1970s, it was used for the teaching of music. During the 2000s, it housed the school tuck shop.
The pavilion underwent a renovation around 2011.
