The Art and Music Block was built in 1997. It was officially opened on 10th December 1997 by Mrs Brenda Medlock, whose husband Dr. Len Medlock, through the Len Medlock Trust, had donated £250,000 to the project.

The suite contains the following facilities, all of which are on the ground floor:

  • Two spacious art classrooms which look out onto the school field.
  • A large music classroom.
  • Five smaller music practice rooms.

An archaeological survey conducted in 1996 uncovered several skeletons thought to be monks from a 13th century Dominican Priory which stood on the site of Blackfriars Theatre until it was destroyed by fire.

Prior to completion of this dedicated block, art and music had been taught in a variety of locations.
