This prize was first awarded at BGS in 1933. It is possibly named after Thomas Ogle, a vicar of Kirton during the 17th Century. His tenure concluded in 1658.
In the past it has also been referred to as the "Divinity Prize", the "Ogle Bible Prize" and the "Ogle Prize".
