This prize was first awarded at BGS in 1933. It was endowed by William Ogle in memory of his father, John Furniss Ogle, who was the vicar of Boston from 1838 to 1850.
In the past it has also been referred to as the "Divinity Prize", the "Ogle Bible Prize" and the "Ogle Prize".
