G. Stanley (Stan) Cawthorne, M.A., B.Mus. (d. 2007) was English master, and latterly Head of English, from 1949 to 1984. He was educated at Wakefield Grammar School (1933–1940) and Brasenose College, Oxford, taking his M.A. in 1949, and a B.Mus. in 1962. During the war he served as Warrant Officer Navigator, RAF Coastal Command (1942–1946).
