The main quadrangle buildings were opened on 21 October 1926. They were the most extensive addition to the school up until that point, and to this day they comprise a significant proportion of the school buildings.
In attendance at the opening ceremony were:
- Sir Archibald Weigall, high sheriff of Lincolnshire
- Admiral Earl Jellicoe of Scapa
- Tom Kitwood, deputy chairman of the governors.
Due to the availability of new classrooms, the Big School was increasingly used for assemblies rather than classroom teaching.
The large quadrangle formed by these extensions would later be bisected in two by the Link Block in 1988.
