Nick founded and ran the Pike Fishing Club and the Jazz Band.

A keen angler, in 1992 he authored a book entitled "In Search of Wild Trout: Flyfishing for Wild Trout in Rivers".

In 2019 he produced a book of poetry, "Knick-Knack, Union Jack: And other poems for our troubled times" which was published by former BGS staff colleague Tim Atkinson's Dotterel Press.
