Frank Harrison Hill was a BGS alumnus, and the editor of the London-based 'Daily News' from 1869 to 1886. Charles Dickens had been the newspaper's first editor, in 1845.
When he died in 1910, Hill left £1,000 to the BGS trustees to be used to found a Frank Harrison Hill Exhibition for one or more subjects.
In recent decades this prize has been awarded to the winner of the Parry Gold Medal, although this was not originally the case.
