While the OBA Wiki subscribes to the MediaWiki and Wikipedia principle of "be bold", meaning that you should feel free to edit or create any article which you genuinely believe to be relevant to the wiki, please be aware that quite a lot of irrelevant content has been posted. This usually takes the form of someone creating an account and then either editing their User: page or creating a new article which is clearly not relevant on this OBA wiki. Our response is to immediately and indefinitely block the user and to block contributions from the IP address they used.
The OBA Wiki subscribes to the MediaWiki and Wikipedia principle of "be bold", meaning that you should feel free to edit or create any article which you genuinely believe to be relevant to the wiki. Nevertheless, we will deal with any any user account created for the express purpose of posting only irrelevant information.

Legitimate subscribers to the wiki have nothing to fear. The way to avoid summary removal is to start off by editing your User: page ("User:yourusername") to say something about yourself and your connection with Boston Grammar School. Then please go on to edit or create articles, but make your first contribution, at least, is something that will not arouse suspicion that you are a spammer. Once you are established as an active user of the OBA wiki, you can start to be a bit more edgy and controversial. Any inappropriate edits may still be questioned, or even reverted, but indefinite blocking is unlikely unless your behaviour is extreme.
We will implement a number of measures in an attempt to minimise spam. Unfortunately some of these measures will cause some degree of inconvenience to legitimate users. As a legitimate user I hope you will understand and bear with this. Current measures in force are:
- Email address confirmation required before editing is permitted
- Indefinite blocking of spamming users
- Temporary blocking of IP addresses used by spamming users
- Indefinite blocking of IP ranges repeatedly used by spamming users

Legitimate subscribers to the wiki have nothing to fear. If you start by making reasonable edits on the Wiki, or by setting up your "User:" page to describe yourself and your connection with Boston Grammar School, you can later start to be a bit more edgy and controversial. Any inappropriate edits may still be questioned, or even reverted, but indefinite blocking is unlikely unless your behaviour is extreme.

Code of practice

The OBA Wiki subscribes to the MediaWiki and Wikipedia principle of "be bold", meaning that you should feel free to edit or create any article which you genuinely believe to be relevant to the wiki. Nevertheless, we will deal with any any user account created for the express purpose of posting only irrelevant information.
