Antony James Beck was a teacher of English at Boston Grammar School (1937-1946). Although still on the staff until 1946, he left Boston Grammar School in 1941 to join the army and did not return.
In the army he was in the Queen's Own Royal West Kent Regiment. He received an emergency commission on 27 February 1943. On leaving the service he taught at the City of Norwich School, which was then a boys' grammar school, from 1946 until his retirement.
