The School concert was held this year on Tuesday, March 29th, and, although the audience was not as large as might have been expected, it was none the less appreciative. Mr. W. L. Alexander received much well-deserved applause for his rendering of Roger Quilter's "Now Sleeps the Crimson Petal" and "O Mistress Mine." The standard of the Orchestra remains as high as in former years, its performance of Percy Fletcher's "Toy Soldiers' March" being especially noteworthy. The singing of the Lower School, which remains a popular part of the Concert, was also up to its usual high standard. Mr. Bastick and Mr. Buffham again rendered a duet on the piano, and Mr. Lockwood's interpretation of the last movement of Mendelssohn's "Concerto in E minor" was such that he received an encore, as also did Mr. Root for his lively expression in "The Song of the Clock." C.W. Taylor showed that he is a pianist of promise when he delighted the audience with two of Brahms' most famous waltzes, and he, too, was encored. Mr. Buffham again conducted.
