Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (1983)
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is a musical or operetta with lyrics by Tim Rice and music by Andrew Lloyd Webber. The story is based on the "coat of many colors" story of Joseph from the Bible's Book of Genesis. This was the first Lloyd Webber and Rice musical to be performed publicly.
In 1983 a production of this musical was put on at Boston Grammar School. The original plan was to produce Jesus Christ Superstar but it is understood that Lloyd Webber's company the Really Useful Group wouldn't permit it because a professional production of that musical was due to start in London.
The Bostonian of 1983 made only this small reference to the production, in the Charity Club report, written by Shane Wakefield who was secretary of the club in 1982-83.
'After Christmas pud and chocolate we got back down to some serious hard work, rehearsing the C.C. Drama Group's latest enterprise, "Joseph and His Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat". With the help of Messrs. Anderson, Boycott, Brierley and Chambers, and Mrs. Clarke and her group of girls from Kitwood Girls School, and many others, we raised over £50, and thoroughly enjoyed every bit of the hard work, (tears being shed on the last night).'
