While George S Bagley was not born in Boston he lived there for over fifty years, working as a journalist for forty of them. As he recorded events of local importance over that time he developed an interest in the town's past.

After retiring from full-time journalism he wrote a series of articles, entitled 'Lindis', for the Lincolnshire Standard Group, which focused on local history. He was author of the first comprehensive history of Boston Grammar School, entitled Floreat Bostona. He went on to write Boston, Its Story and People, which covered the history of Boston.

George Bagley served as chairman of the Property Committee of Boston Preservation Trust.
