Robert John Reynolds was educated at Boston Grammar School.
The son of auctioneer Alfred Reynolds who lived in Broadfield House, Boston and later at 12 Wide Bargate, Reynolds was the second winner of the Parry Gold Medal. He was admitted to Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge in 1877. He gained his BA in 1881 and his MA in 1886. He rowed for the college eight, was a good cricketer and all-round sportsman.
He became Principal of St Catherine's School, Tenby and later lived at Lissenden Gardens, Highgate. He died in Wolverhampton in 1892, aged 35.
