Benny was a band formed following the end of the second incarnation of Vehicle Derek. Andy Sandall and Del Howes switched over to guitar and drums respectively, and added longtime friend Aston Stephens on vocals and former BGS Head Boy Alan Boyce on bass. The band released three albums, a couple of singles and appeared on multiple compilation appearances on the Boss Tuneage label during the early 2000s.

Benny's repertoire included a rock tribute to the Beast Mart proclamation, the opening track on the second album 'Our True Intent Is All For Your Delight' and the final song the band performed live in their final ever show. The first two albums also featured homages to the BGS Jazz Band, in which both Alan Boyce and Andy Sandall had played bass guitar, with renditions of BGS Jazz Band favourites Margie and Dr Jazz. References to Boston, South Lincolnshire and BGS in particular littered the songs and the album's sleeve-notes.

The band would only play three live shows in their three year history, partly due to logistics of getting band members together. All three shows were played as part of punk festivals with the band's performances highly anticipated due to their mix of theatricality and the high possibility of obscure cover versions being played. The band ceased to exist when Andy Sandall announced his pending emigration to the US, and a compilation of all the bands releases was put together by Boss Tuneage and released "posthumously".
