Arthur Hill was a teacher of classics at BGS for forty two years between 1887 and 1929. He was appointed second master (equivalent to deputy headmaster) in 1900.
On 1 April 1925 the boys of Boston Grammar School made a presentation to Arthur Hill of a marble clock on the occasion of his approaching marriage. The presentation was made after morning school on behalf of the subscribers by Albert Clarke, the head boy. Earlier in the morning the teaching staff of the school had given Hill a framed photograph of the school as he first knew it 37 years before. The gift was presented by George Ward Border.
In 1945 he was the guest of honour at Speech Day. Following his death in 1949, two prizes were named in his memory: the Arthur Hill Memorial Prize and the Hill Classics Prize. A memorial plaque to him was unveiled in Big School in 1950.
