Obituary

written by his brother Bob Stanwell

Bill was named after his grandfather, William Henry Stanwell, butcher and farmer of Boston and was the eldest of 18 grandchildren of William Henry and Eliza.

After leaving BGS in 1948, Bill started work in the family butcher's business in West Street Boston and, other than National Service in the RAF in the early 1950's, he worked in the meat trade most of his working life. He ran branches of the Dewhurst and Liptons chains in Grantham and Spalding until moving to Newark in the late 60's where he ran the meat operation of Allied Suppliers Cash and Carry/ Wholesale business for many years.

Bill was a devoted family man and loved all manner of family events and celebrations and was a keen supporter of Boston United and Derbyshire County Cricket Club. He took up golf in his later years which epitomised his desire always for new interests and willingness to "give it a go".

He leaves his wife Enid, of Newark, daughter Linda Rano, son-in-law Max and grandchildren Louise and Miles of Toulouse, and daughter Caroline Parkhurst, son-in-law Scott and grandsons Luke, Dominic and Alexander of Reading.
