Obituary
From the Spring/Summer 2003 issue of The Old Bostonian, written by Rev RT Westland
Martin G Varcoe died on 14th April 2003 at Glenfield Hospital, Leicester after several heart attacks.
Martin and I were boyhood friends, starting at BGS at nearly the same time. He was a really good footballer and after leaving school played for the Old Boys. He was my partner in many tennis tournaments, especially when I organised the Old Boys' Annual Tennis Tournament. He was a good dancer, attending many events in Boston Assembly Rooms. His National Service made him a Sergeant in the Royal Engineers. On demob he commenced training with Hodgson & Harris Accountants (Boston),. Eventually, having moved around to Derby, Skegness, and eventually to Market Harborough in 1976, he became a partner in Berry & Co. Chartered Accountants.
Having served as Treasurer of the Old Bostonian Association, Martin had latterly reverted to being an interested member.
Many friends and colleagues attended the thanksgiving service on 24th April 2003 at the Albert Munn Chapel, Kettering Crematorium. Donations in lieu of flowers went to Market Harborough Medical Centre.
Deep sympathy was expressed to his wife, Monica, and to all the family in their loss, and all present gave thanks for the many good memories, friendships, and help given by Martin.
May he rest in peace.
